Next weekend I’m driving down to Portland for 4 days to shoot a cookbook for a television show (which I’m not allowed to name just yet, but I will when I can). Ryan & Holly of SharpSeven are doing the design work and Kierstin Buchner will be doing the food styling.
So let’s call a spade a spade: The only food photography I’ve done is shooting burgers on a green table while one of my roommates hits ping pong balls at me. Still, I’m thrilled to be a part of the project. However, I am very experienced at eating food. So let’s call a spade a spade: QUALIFIED.
The books above are the ones I’ve been looking through for some inspiration. If you have any particular food websites that you think have great images, please pass them along.
Production photos, food photos, photos of all of us stuffing our faces and more this weekend.

and take a look through MIX magazine when you get to portland, if you can find it. it’s the oregonian’s mag. lots of great stuff in there.
food photography is actually something i plan to work on when i move back to cali. it helps that my sis-n-law is a baker :)
have fun!
ps. jamie oliver is my fav chef. and im not ashamed to say that it’s probably 90% because of the accent.
I really like the images in Gourmet magazine. The website has a good representation of them, I think. http://www.gourmet.com/B
Barefoot Contessa also has full page good images in the cookbooks. But I’m not liking them as much on the website for some reason. Maybe it is image size or color on my monitor or something. http://www.barefootcontessa.com/ (I was just scrolling through recipes looking at images didn’t poke around on the rest of the site much.)
Have a great time! Can’t wait to hear what you think of the experience.
Uhm, can’t help you with any websites, but did want to wish you luck (err, so what does one tell a photographer…like ones tells an actor to break a leg, so, maybe break a hand…oh geez, i hope you don’t break your hand this week…i would feel really, really bad…) with your latest endeavor. Hope you have fun!!
Hey Joshua, it’s been a while, hope you are well! We’ve just had our first wedding anniversary, how crazy…thank you again for being part of our big day!

Written by a Swedish expatriate living in Tuscany. Ignore the bread photos - they come from several sources. Her more typical photos can be seen in the entry about chocolate cupcakes with prosecco frosting (scroll about halfway down). Besides some interesting shots, who wouldn’t want to try a prosecco-frosted chocolate cupcake?
Definitely check out Nigella Lawson’s site. The only word to describe her food photos…..luscious. :)
